The US Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis (IAW FAR 13.106-1(b)) with Sartorius Corporation, 565 Johnson Ave., Bohemia, NY 11716-2606 for a contract for the purchase of a single use automated bioreactor system for cell culture and microbial fermentation to be used for environmental impact studies.

Objectives of projects in The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Environmental Laboratory (EL) are to conduct research using synthetic biology involving microorganisms, the ability to work with and modify DNA and proteins, and generate bioenabled materials. The automated bioreactor will be used to automate cell culture and microbial fermentation. This instrument will generate materials required for synthetic biology research to aid in ongoing environmental impact studies.

The bioreactor system must be a single use multi-parallel bioreactor that is fully automated single-use automated bioreactor system for cell culture and microbial fermentation. The bioreactor system must be a single use multi-parallel bioreactor that is fully automated. This system must be able to utilize existing Sartorius Ambr 250 vessels and mini bioreactors.

The system must include:

• Ambr 250 Modular 2 bioreactors, chiller Manufacturer Part No: 001-8A64

• Ambr 250 Modular exit gas analysis Manufacturer Part No: 001-8A07-NP

• Ambr 250 Modular online biomass option 2-4 way Manufacturer Part No: 001-8A10

• Ambr 250 Modular microbial vessels, pack of 2 Manufacturer Part No: 001-2A13

• Installation Ambr 250 Modular 2-4 way Manufacturer Part No: S87VINSTP

• Installation online biomass Ambr 250 Modular 2-4 way Manufacturer Part No: S873PINSTPIt must be compatible with the laboratory’s existing Sartorius Ambr 250 mini bioreactors and vessels. The system must be an enhanced parallel microbial or cell culture system using 100-250 mL single-use bioreactors with a fully automated liquid handling platform. The control module must manage individual vessel requirements including pH, temperature, DO and impeller speed. Each bioreactor must have an option of a fully dedicated off-gas analyzer measuring both CO2 and O2, have an easy connect for installation for all gas, and have liquid and sensor connections. Therefore, because of the compatibility requirement with the laboratories existing Sartorius Ambr 250 mini bioreactors and vessels, the same brand is required.

This acquisition is being conducted under FAR 13.106-1(b). There are no set-aside restrictions for this requirement. The intended procurement will be classified under North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) 334516 with a Small Business Size Standard of 1000 employees. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals and no solicitation document exists for this requirement. However, parties interested in responding to this notice shall submit technical data, including price, sufficient to determine capability in providing the same or similar items. All capability statements received by the closing date of the publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
